Default HR 45 is Dead.....Dead......Dead

I keep getting emails, and see on other forums where HR 45 is all of a sudden a major concern YET AGAIN.

Snopes, as usual, is doing it’s share of perpetuating the concern. While Snopes has labeled HR 45 as TRUE, which it possibly was at the time, HR 45 died in committee. So now, Snopes is wrong. It is no longer before the house.

Since none of the following conditions were implemented, HR 45 is DEAD.

Now HR 45 is just another Internet Rumor that comes around again and again.

Since it is dead, it will not resurface until after the mid terms and that is if the Libs maintain Congressional control. Even then it is doubtful. Don’t forget, HR 45 had no co-sponsors.

If this is the HR 45 you're talking about, it's not quite dead. It was referred to committee.

Yes.

Please read the post carefully. It WAS referred to Committee. It died in Committee as the various links indicate.

I don't get it....what does a link to State of Minnesota rules have to do with a US Congress bill?

Oops. You are absolutely right. This is what happens when I get involved with too many things at one time. Please accept my apologies for the faulty link.

HR 45 was introduced into the House on January 6, 2009.

HR 45 then was referred to subcommittee on February 9, 2009, and has not been seen since.

The calendar/schedule of the subcommittee begins on January 22, 2009, and there is no mention of HR 45 to date.

http://judiciary.house.gov/hearings/transcripts11.html

If the subcommittee fails to “Mark Up”, or accept “as is” HR 45, they effectively kill the bill. It goes no further.

On a completely different bill, SB 2099, which is an incorrect label. Senate bills are labeled “S” only. So S 2099, in the 111th Congress is a hoax.

Back in 2000 Senator Jack Reid a Democrat from R.I. introduced S.2099 during the 106 Congress. It was to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to require the registration of handguns for the purpose of taxing them. Remember, this was in 2000, not 2009. It died in committee.

S 2009 was NEVER introduced into the 111th Congress. It was however, introduced into the 106th Congress in 2000 where it died in subcommittee.
